BEON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL | Madang Province
Beon Elementary School is located a few miles outside of Madang Town in the Ambenob LLG, Madang District, Papua New Guinea (See map below). It is situated near the Beon Correctional Institution and the Water PNG treatment plant. It is a feeder school for Beon Primary School.
The school is attended by local Furan, Beon, Panim children as well as kids from nearby government institutions.
The school was founded by Foreign Service Institute as part of its community engagement programs. The Director of FSI became the school’s first teacher. In January 2015, he enrolled 32 students and taught them throughout the year.
Eventually, the school was launched on 14th May 2016 and was officially registered with the Education Department on the same day. The school was given the code F65 on the day and after a year, it received its first learning materials and TFF (subsidies) from the government.
During the launching, officials from the Department of Education attended and registered the school on-behalf of the department. Other local local leaders also attended, including Mr. Bryan Kramer (now Hon. Bryan Kramer, MP & State Minister).
At the beginning of 2016, it had 63 students sitting under a tent [as seen in the picture above].
The school currently has two classes, one registered teacher and two other assistant teachers. It has a Board of Management, chaired by Mr. Raymond Malib, a community leader and SDA elder.
It is one of the feeder schools for Beon Primary School.
The school has plans to improving itself especially with teaching materials and is currently seeking individuals and groups to make donations. The immediate areas of need include;
- Building a staff house;
- Purchasing a laptop, printer and a digital camera;
- Purchasing reading books, blackboards, phonics and other learning materials.
