STEAMSHIPS COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM – 2019

Each year Steamships sets aside a budget for the purposes of awarding community grants, in line with the company’s Community Engagement Strategy, and the Community Grants and In-kind Donations Program. The aim is to identify grant recipients, whose projects and activities will most effectively deliver results against the principles and desired outcomes of the Community Engagement Strategy and which will bring significant and measurable positive impact to the target communities.

1. AUSTRALIAN AWARDS 2019

   1. The Australia Awards are prestigious scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government. A range of long and short term scholarships for studies both in Australia and in Papua New Guinea are offered.Australia Awards Scholarships for study in Australia in 2019 are OPEN. Women, persons with disability and people living and working in the provinces are encouraged to APPLY. 2. NEW ZEALAND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PAPUA NEW GUINEANS 2019

3. CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS (UK & COMMONWEALTH) FOR PNG 2019

   1. Chevening Scholarships are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue a one-year master’s at any UK university. The scholarship programme provides a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. A Chevening Scholarship offers financial support along with the opportunity to become part of the highly regarded and influential Chevening global network. Applicants can choose any course of study at any UK higher education institution.

4. FULLBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP (US EMBASSY) 2019

   1. The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 J. William Fulbright Graduate Scholarship Program for citizens of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. The scholarship pays for up to two years of graduate study in the United States.One Fulbright scholarship recipient will be chosen for his or her academic merit and leadership potential. 5. JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS 2019

   1. There are several  scholarship opportunities for Papua New Guinea students to study in Japan. One of these scholarship is the  Japanese government-sponsored  scholarships available under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho)

      Scholarship program. These scholarships are for  research students, teacher training  students, undergraduate university students, Japanese studies students, college  of technology students, special training students and YLP  students.

       Scholarship  Selection Criteria 

      Those wishing to apply for a  scholarship should meet one of the criteria listed below:

      1.Recommended by a Japanese  embassy or consulate general (Embassy  Recommendation).
      2.Recommended by the Japanese university which will accept you (University  Recommendation).
      3.Selected by the Japanese  university in which you are currently enrolled if you are a privately-financed
      student already studying in Japan (Domestic Selection).

      History, Japanese Language and  others. B: Economics, Business  Administration

6. CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS 2018/2019

   1. Chinese Government Scholarships for PNG Students

      Notice on the Chinese Government Scholarships for PNG Students 2018/2019 in accordance with the MOU on Educational Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The Chinese Government will provide twenty-two full bachelor’s degree scholarships and three full master’s degree scholarships for PNG students to study in China starting from the academic year 2018/2019. Qualification Requirements: Applicants for post graduate studies must be:

      • PNG citizen in good health;
      • Must be under the age of 35 with a Bachelor Degree or higher, and;
      • Must complete 2 – 3 years’ work experience.

      Applicants for graduate/undergraduate program must be:

      • PNG citizen in good health;
      • Be under the age of 25 with a secondary diploma or Grade Twelve (12) Higher School Certificate with high academic performance.

      Requirements:

      Applicants are required to submit x4 Certified Photocopies of relevant application materials listed below:

      • Higher School Certificate;
      • Academic Transcripts;
      • Detailed Study Plan;
      • Two Recommendation Letters;
      • A Character Reference Letter from a Parish Priest/Pastor/Church Elder;
      • X4 passport sized photos attached to each application;
      • Birth Certificate;
      • Police Clearance Form;
      • Curriculum Vitae, and;
      • Current/Valid contact information of Parents/Guardians (separate sheet).

      Priority field of study:

      The priority areas of study include: sciences, technology, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, liberal arts, and philosophy.

      All applicants are advised to apply online. Visit the following websites for instructions on how to apply online. There is another site that provides similar information.  The Agency number is 5981. Read instructions on how to apply online and proceed to apply.

      Application Deadline: Completed Application online Form must be downloaded and printed out in quadrats (x4) plus all required documents stated above be sent to:

      The applications should reach the department no later than their said deadlines. All applicants must apply online and submit hard copies of application in quadrats. Failure to apply online will automatically disqualify your application. Faxed applications will not be accepted. The Foreigner Physical Examination Form will only be sent to shortlisted candidates after the interview.

      Applicants are also advised that if you do not receive any response from DHERST or the PNG Chinese Embassy then please consider you application as being unsuccessful.
